Greer Creek

Background

Greer Creek is a tributary of the Nechako River and is an important stream for salmon spawning and rearing. Much of the area along Greer Creek has been logged and/or cleared for agricultural purposes over the last century. Historical clearing practices and cattle grazing in riparian areas have contributed to stream bank stability deterioration, erosion issues, in some locations very severe, and have resulted in stream relocation, mass wasting, and significant deposition of sediment into the stream.

About the Greer Creek Rehabilitation Project - Healthy Watershed Initiative 2021

Eroding banks were protected with a combination of relief channels, strategically placed rock spurs, and Large-woody debris (LWD) to enhance immediate protections of eroding banks. Large-woody debris also added habitat enhancements for juvenile and adult fish by to providing cover, and habitat diversity/complexity. Willow were also planted along banks to enhance long term riparian and bank stability, and provide shade and cover for fish in Greer Creek.
