Coastal GasLink Provides Funds for Stoney Creek Restoration

CALGARY, Alberta – October, 2013 – TransCanada Corporation (TSX, NYSE: TRP) (TransCanada) and its wholly owned subsidiary Coastal GasLink announced they have formed a community partnership with the Nechako Environment and Water Stewardship Society (NEWSS), based in Vanderhoof, B.C. As part of the agreement, Coastal GasLink will contribute $10,000 towards the restoration of Stoney Creek, with potential for further future support.

Stoney Creek flows through Vanderhoof and into the Nechako River, where spawning beds of the Nechako white sturgeon and chinook salmon are located. The project will include replanting the riverbanks, restoring the mouth of the stream, and creating habitat for fish.

“This is a terrific opportunity for Coastal GasLink to give back to the community,” said Rick Gateman, President, Coastal GasLink. “We strongly believe in helping to build healthy, safe and vibrant communities where we live and work. It’s been part of our culture for over 60 years. Whether it’s providing financial support, sharing resources or volunteering, we are committed to playing a role in building better communities.”

TransCanada’s $10,000 investment will be matched by the Nechako Environment Enhancement Fund.

“This funding from Coastal GasLink will help us start the important planning and prescription part of the recovery of Stoney Creek,” said Wayne Salewski, Director, Nechako Environment & Water Stewardship Society. “We are very grateful for the help and look forward to developing a community-based strategy and a healthier stream for future generations.”
