eDNA

The eDNA program is a research method whereby stream water is collected and analyzed in the lab to detect DNA molecules in the sample. The analysis helps determine which fish species have been present within the water system.

Many streams in the Nechako watershed have been sampled as part of the eDNA project, that ran for 5-years in partnership with School District 91.

EriksonRd-eDNA shows Murray Creek channel well protected from livestock due to measures made by landowner. Here, the eDNA crew are sampling to determine fish species presence/absence by fishing (an accepted methodology).
